Progress on the sheds had slowed to a crawl during early 2019 as the Solar Array project took over for a while, but by May we were back on it to apply the finishing touches. Each shed has a set of double doors that were made from 70 x 38 framing and 96 x 18 tongue and groove facing. Again all these timbers were coated with Sadolin before being screwed and glued together. The door apertures were dressed with 70 x 22 around the opening and the doors mounted with three hinges for each door as well as various bolts and a padlock hasp for each set. The fascias were made from 225 x 21 softwood fascia board (again coated in Sadolin) and roof’s verge edges were dressed with Ondulin ridge/verge and a gutter installed along the back edge of the roof. A large water collection tank was installed behind the sheds and the drainpipe fitted to drain into it with an overflow system added to drain off any excess.
The interior partition walls of the sheds were dressed with 12mm OSB to create the individual spaces and the floors brushed and painted with two coats of Leyland floor paint. An electricity supply was installed via an armoured cable from the barn and each shed wired for lighting and sockets with bulkhead lights installed inside and an outdoor downlighter installed over each set of doors to make it easy to see when opening them in the dark. Finally the ground in front of the sheds was levelled, compacted and a row of flags installed across the front of the sheds with new turf laid in front of these. The rear/side of the sheds was gravelled with gravel boards installed alongside to keep it from spreading.
The finished article.
Since this was done the sheds have proved massively useful for housing all the equipment from the barn as well as providing storage for various building materials and the likes. However, one problem has arisen and that is the doors are problematic due to expansion and contraction in all likelihood due to the timber not being seasoned. As such there are plans to modify the access to use roller shutter mini-garage doors, but at the time of writing this remains to be undertaken.
